The airline was established in 2005 and started operations in 2006. Taban Air was founded by Captain Asghar Abdollahpour.

The Taban Air fleet included the following aircraft (as of 19 December 2011):^[1]

Note: Taban Air had 5 Tu-154M's (3 operated by Kolavia and 2 by Tajik Air) but one operated by Kolavia was lost in an accident at Mashhad International Airport on 24 January 2010.

All of Taban Air aircraft (except for EP-TBA) were operated by different airlines. At January 2010, Kolavia, Hemus Air and Tajik Air all operated aircraft for Taban Air.

• On 24 January 2010, Taban Air Flight 6437, a Tupolev Tu-154, crashed whilst making an emergency landing at Mashhad International Airport due to a medical emergency; all 157 and 13 crew survived the accident with 42 receiving minor injuries.^[2][3][4]
